After 30 years working as a Chef in France and building relationships with producers, winemakers and people passionate about food, Francois Morabito moved to Perth with his family ten years ago.
Francois wanted to share his appreciation for good food and wine as well as French landscapes and culture, which led him to create authentic and intimate guided gourmet tours in France.
My early life in France
It was around 7 when Francois started his first cooking “experience” by carefully following the recipes in pastry books.
“I remember spending most of my weekends looking at raised cakes and different baking mixes behind the glass of the oven door.” - Francois
At 15, he begun his hospitality studies close to his birth city in the Alsace region. After two diplomas, he had the rare opportunity to begin studying at the most prestigious Chef School, l’Ecole Superieure de Cuisine Francaise in Paris, and graduated at the top of his class.
After working several years in a Michelin star restaurant, Francois and his wife Esther opened their first restaurant Le Panier du Marché in Strasbourg in 1997. A few years later, they had the opportunity to open a catering business and a second restaurant L’Atelier du Gout that they ran until early 2013. They are now dual citizens, giving them a profound understanding of both cultures.
My Voyage to Australia and becoming a Michelin star chef.
Never in rest for a new challenge, they moved with their daughter Elena to Adelaide in July 2013, before moving to Perth.
Francois is well=known in Western Australia for his prowess in the kitchen, having been the Head Chef at Alain Fabregues’ Bistro Des Artistes, opening Stix Bar and Restaurant in 2015 before becoming Head Chef at the Weld Club, where he drew inspiration from his Michelin star chef French experience.
My love for French cuisine and its culture led me to start My French Voyage.
However, it was Francois’ love for his home country that was calling, which led to the creation of My French Voyage, which became the vehicle to share his love of France with Australian and International travellers.
Early in 2018, Francois and Esther launched the boutique travel company specialising in regional guided gastronomy tours to France, a unique way to experience France created from his and Esther’s personal experiences in each region.
“We want Australians and English speakers to experience France ‘off the beaten path’ and explore the great food and wine that we cherish as locals,” - Francois
Guests on Francois’s guided tours will not only get to experience some of the country’s best restaurants, wineries, markets, stay in boutique luxury accommodation, and be part of unique tours, but will also experience Francois cooking for them each evening. They want their guests to experience France like a local and truly enjoy the best of the regions.
“I can’t wait to share my love of French food with them, so they can learn about the local cuisine and take a little bit of France home with them when they leave” - Francois
